Job Title: Director, Global Product Line Management - Soft Lines

Location: The Coleman Company, Inc.- Golden, Colorado

Relocation: Relocation is offered for this position. Strong preference given to local candidates.


Accountabilities: The Director, Global Product Line Management - Soft Lines is responsible for the directing the activities that ensure the effective management of the assigned product line portfolio to achieve profit targets based on long term strategies, innovative product development, product quality leadership, market launch success, consumer and customer comprehension and supply chain management. Strong emphasis will be placed on defining and executing tactics/strategies based on profit driven long term vision for the business. The Director, Global Product Line Management - Soft Lines collaborates with Brand Management, New Product Development, Consumer Marketing and Channel Sales to assure the development and introduction of programs or products that meet customer and consumer requirements. The primary accountabilities include:

  • Conducts/comprehends the analysis of consumer/customer requirements and competitive pressures, the development of new product initiatives and the creation of strategic plans to ensure that product portfolios and life cycles are correctly applied across market segments and distribution channels. Special emphasis will be placed on product comprehension outside of traditional customer channels; thereby leveraging manufacturing capabilities and product capabilities.
  • Guides the initiation of various forms of consumer/customer research (e.g., focus groups, consumer segmentation studies) and the evaluation of the results in order to establish an intimate understanding of consumer needs and behaviors.
  • Establishes the development of a business intelligence capability to collect and analyze market and competitive data and provide insights in support of strategic planning and new product development while advancing the development of market models.
  • Establishes the criteria upon which cross-functional product development teams drive solutions. Product lines are defined by gap, trend, consumer, customer and channel analysis
  • Collaborates with Product Marketing in the launch of new products including planning of launch schedules, merchandising, special promotions, advertising and product training, promotional materials, catalogs and trade promotions.
  • Oversees the initiation and development off sales presentations, tradeshow exhibits and sales and customer meetings in support of Product Marketing activities.
  • Is responsible for evaluations of actual sales and profit results for product lines and coordinates the initiation of corrective actions and strategies to return results to plan.
  • Establishes a five year plan which details the mean for achieving sales and profit objectives for assigned Product Categories by envisioning new products/categories/businesss that will meet customer/consumer future needs and lifestyle changes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

Required Qualifications: In order to perform the accountabilities of this positions, candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Legal authorization to work in the US.
  • A minimum of 8 years experience in Product Management, Program Development, marketing analysis and sales systems.
  • A Bachelor Degree in Business, Marketing or related field.
  • Proven capacity to establish and lead a proactive, innovative product management/development function using consumer research market intelligence and sophisticated product engineering and design.
  • Highly refined demonstrated presentation and analytical skills.
  • The willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time to perform the essential duties of this position. Some travel may be international.
  • The willingness and ability to relocate to Golden, Colorado, if not already located in the area.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the above requirement candidates may be able to demonstrate:

  • An MBA degree.
