Position Summary:
Directs the activities that ensure the effective management of Products portfolio to achieve profit targets based on long term strategies, innovative product development, product quality leadership, market launch success, consumer and customer comprehension. Strong emphasis will be placed on defining and executing tactics/strategies based on a profit driven long term vision for the business. Collaborates with all established business disciplines to assure the development and introduction of programs or products that meet customer and consumer requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Product Management — conducts/comprehends the analysis of consumer/customer requirements and competitive pressures, the development of new product initiatives, existing product line extensions, and the creation of strategic plans for products to ensure that product portfolios and life cycles are correctly applied; thereby leveraging manufacturing capabilities and product capabilities
- P& L responsibility for product portfolio. Will meet or exceed Coleman Corporate goals as defined annually.
- Channel management – effectively manages product portfolio to realistically differentiate product lines by channel for maximum penetration of channels with product platforms. Premium channels will require premium profits and premium features.
- Consumer/Customer Needs Research — Guides the initiation of various forms of consumer/customer research (e.g., focus groups, consumer segmentation studies) and the evaluation of the results in order to establish an intimate understanding of consumer needs and behaviors.
- Business Intelligence — Establishes the development of a business intelligence capability to collect and analyze market and competitive data and provide insights in support of strategic planning and new product development.
- New Product Concepts — Guides the development of proposed new product concepts that include product functionality, general design criteria and potential price and presentation targets and prepares and presents comprehensive business plans to support the new products development.
- New Product Development — Establishes the criteria upon which cross-functional product development teams deliver solutions.
- Commercialization — Collaborates with Product Marketing — in the launch of new products including planning of launch schedules, merchandising, special promotions, advertising and product training, promotional materials, catalogs and trade promotions.
- Trade Marketing Support — Oversees the initiation and development of sales presentations, trade show exhibits and sales and customer meetings in support of Product Marketing activities.
- Product Line Reviews — Is responsible for evaluations of actual sales and profit results for product lines and coordinates the initiation of corrective actions and strategies to return results to plan.Long Range Planning — Establishes a three to five year plan which details the means for achieving sales and profit objectives for assigned Product Categories by envisioning new products/existing product line extensions/categories/business’s that will meet customer/consumer future needs and lifestyle changes.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or a related discipline is required.
- 5+ years experience in the business/product management function in a complex, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. With very strong exposure to financial/capital management and cost accounting principles.
- Capability to establish and lead a proactive, innovative product management/development function.
- Strong presentation, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work within a team environment – demonstrate the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required to support the business initiatives.
- Advanced level of PC skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, and MS Project
- Some travel may be required, including international travel.
