JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of the Director of Innovation Lab, assists in planning and executing the Lab’s projects and research. Researches best practices and innovative approaches to anti-poverty programs. Leads innovation projects as assigned. Assists in program development, prepares literature reviews, written reports and summaries of research related to low-income children and families. May give public presentations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Identify, compile, and disseminate leading national research on policies and evidence-based programs to alleviate intergenerational poverty.
  • Conduct research on theoretical approaches to changing behavior and alleviating poverty.
  • Prepare quality written summaries of research.
  • Serve as project lead on innovation projects, including but not limited to designing and implementing surveys, conducting other research projects, and assisting in the development and implementation of pilot projects.
  • Assist in efforts to engage organizations to implement Innovation Lab projects.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the Innovation Lab’s performance progress.
  • Attend community meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in the overall execution of the Innovation Lab’s research agenda as needed.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Must have excellent research and writing skills with the ability to synthesize and present information effectively in various formats to disparate audiences. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail required. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be comfortable making calls to outside agencies to collect information about innovative practices. Ability to work in innovative and at times unstructured environment strongly desired. Must have proven successful interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively. Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure. Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, economics, sociology or related field with 1-2 years of research experience. Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills. Advanced MS office and database software skills. Advanced organizational skills, efficiency skills and excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to completing assignments on a timely basis.

Position Preferences:
Experience with low-income families and/or individuals; experience implementing programs and services; graduate training.
