Description
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Disability Team Leader, assists with reviews of records, accessing services for Early Childhood Program’s parents and children. May assist with health and other related services when special needs children are involved
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist children on Head Start IEP and IFSP in the classroom setting.
- Prepare and distribute parent information relating to disabilities and education.
- Provide individualization for children with disabilities in the Early Childhood Program.
- Document all contact and services provided for children on caseload awaiting the referral process.
- Conduct consent meetings when requested.
- Keep all files regarding children on caseload up to date, and documentation in each child’s center file.
- Maintain inventory control on disabilities lending equipment.
- Prepare and distribute material updates to centers as available.
- Review records and other data for disabilities components (e.g., center reviews, release of information logs).
- Maintain accurate and legible records concerning disabilities services.
- Assist teachers with children on Head Start IEP and IFSP needed, and/or assigned.
- Attend and contribute in all Head Start IEPs for children on caseload.
- Assist with implementation of written IEPs.
- Attend and contribute file review meetings as requested.
- Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary staffing.
- Write and send home progress notes to parents monthly on children awaiting evaluations from LEA.
- Document all In-Kind contributions and submit on a monthly basis.
- Attend and participate in all pre-service, in-service, and out-of-agency training as deemed necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Works under the direct supervision of the Disability Team Leader, works closely with the Associate Director of Program Compliance. Works collaboratively with partners and community. No supervisory responsibility.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Must have proven successful interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively. Must be able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines. Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure. Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc. Knowledge of agency and component policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices, and the ability to apply such. Must be able to gain cooperation of Early Childhood Program children and families.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/G.E.D., 1-2 years of experience working with children and clients with disabilities. Basic – Intermediate MS Office skills, intermediate database software skills. Advanced organizational skills, efficiency skills and excellent attention to detail. Position preferences: bilingual (Spanish/English), college courses in family health or special education.
OTHER
Primarily a traveling position within Tulsa County (exposure to normal traffic hazards). Work requires bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing throughout the day. Ability to lift and carry clients up to 50 pounds who require assistance with daily living needs. Regular and reliable attendance required.
