Requisition Number 13-0043 Post Date 4/17/2013 Title Mgr of Public Relations City Houston Description The purpose of this position is to develop and implement strategic media relations, community relations and social media programs to promote the mission of DePelchin Childrens Center and establish the organization as a leader in its field. As the public relations representative for DePelchin, this position is responsible for pro-active media pitching for strategic initiatives and managing all media inquiries, including crisis communications with assistance from the Director of Marketing and Public Relations. In addition to developing social media campaigns to support fundraising and foster family recruitment efforts, the Manager of Public Relations will also oversee all social media platforms and the DePelchin blog, working across departments to generate fresh content in an effort to actively engage the public. This position is also responsible for helping to develop and maintain strategic relationships within the community that advance the DePelchin brand, coordinating with other areas such as fundraising and volunteerism to ensure efforts are aligned. Requirements Bachelors Degree in related field (Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism); Masters Degree preferred. More than five years experience in public relations and/or a related field such as marketing. Experience with managing media and outside agencies. Proven record of planning and implementing public relations strategies. Thorough understanding of developing media materials and writing press releases. Ability to manage crisis communications independently and effectively. Ability to interact professionately with diverse staff, client-base, and community leaders. Knowledge and interest in leveraging social media platforms. Comfort with changing technology and willingness to stay up to date. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PRtrack or other reporting tools.
