KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Board Certification in Oncology
MAJOR DUTIES:
Incumbent is responsible for the oversight of the oncology clinic including the outpatient infusion unit, the nurse practitioner clinic and the delivery of expert opinion to Ambulatory Care Physicians. The incumbent provides consultations and collaboration for patients with primary oncologic conditions, or patients admitted for acute oncologic emergencies. The incumbent will also be requested to provide peer review responsibilities for internal and external case reviews concerning oncology conditions and treatments. The incumbent will be required to be the collaborating physician with a nurse practitioner and oversee nurses or other allied health care professionals in their performance of outpatient infusion therapy. A familiarity of basic computer skills, especially in CPRS is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Must be a citizen of the United States.
2. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (a) schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted; (b) schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted; or (c) schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
3. Must possess and maintain a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
4. Must have completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. Approved residencies are: (a) those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed; OR (b) other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS: Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical, including the possibility of a drug screen.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d) & 7407(d).

BOARD CERTIFICATION: Board certified in Oncology.

National Provider Identifier (NPI): NPI will be requested prior to appointment.

Must possess and maintain a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Must be a United States Citizen.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicants' successful completion of a background security investigation & favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE: The VA has established a Drug-Free Federal Workplace Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA for a period of six months. This policy extends to random testing for the use of illegal drugs by employees who occupy testing designated positions defined as sensitive in Section 7(d) of Executive Order 12564.
