POSITION SUMMARY (Briefly describe the purpose of the position) Responsible for providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom of the daycare center with specific responsibility for organizing and directing age-appropriate activities for preschool age students; preparing and serving snacks and lunch; and assisting in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment for students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE (List in order of importance) Assist lead teacher with lesson planning and/or age appropriate indoor and/or outdoor activities working with individual or small groups of children (e.g. games, art, music, science, language, nutrition, playground, washing hands, etc.) that promote and/or reinforce learning concepts. Model positive and effective adult/child behaviors (e.g. classroom, with parents, etc.) in all activities which leads to the emotional, intellectual and social development of children. Prepare a suitable learning environment for children by distributing necessary instructional supplies and/or play materials and setting up interest centers. Assist staff in preparation of nutritional snacks and lunches that comply with established KDHE guidelines and meet the nutritional needs of the students. Conduct daily health checks and visually monitor individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. snack and lunch time, group or individual games, playground activities, quiet time, field trips, classroom, play time, etc. ) to ensure environment is clean, safe and free of hazards. Promote good habits for improving the quality of students outcome and encouraging student development. Interact and communicate cooperatively and effectively with staff members, teachers, parents, and students. Report any observances of problems with children to lead teacher or administrator of daycare center. Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE (List as required or preferred)
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Must obtain CDA (Child Development Associate) certification by end of first year of employment.
Experience: Prior experience in a preschool or childcare setting required.
Knowledge/Skills: Working knowledge and understanding of early childhood development and education desired. Sincere desire to help children learn, grow and gain new skills. Ability to communicate effectively with parents and include them in their childs learning process. Ability to deal with emergency situations in a calm manner.
Licenses/Certifications: First Aid, CPR and Signs and Symptoms certification required, with recertification every two years. CDA certification required by end of first year of employment.
