Front End Development (JAVASCRIPT) Tech Lead / Product Owner

Job Location: Des Moines, Iowa

Base salary up to 82K plus GREAT WORK ENVIRONMENT!

 

- Primary responsibility: Tech lead for integrations on multiple websites.    This role will be the product owner from a technical perspective and to use their role to push for improvements inside and outside of the tech sphere.    They will have a junior developer working with them who they will delegate priorities. 

- Secondary responsibility: Own external site performance.

  Strengths that are a MUST:

- A+ Javascript skills

- Good understanding of codebase -or- excellent code interpretation/archeology skills

- Skilled at education/training/documentation

- Understanding of DFP or a willingness to learn.

- Salesmanship to get other developers and the business on board for changes.

 

A day-in-the-life might look like:

- Most developers roll into the office between 8 and 9:30am.

- Daily 15 min standup with team to discuss priorities and roadblocks.

- Respond to emails from 3rd party vendor regarding in-progress integration projects.

- Respond to emails from a developer on another team regarding testing efforts for upgrade project.

- Weekly Performance task force meeting with larger group to discuss progress and next steps on various initiatives.

- Answer a few ‘drive-by’ questions from other developers.

- Check on status of something you are waiting on another developer for.

- Complete coding on a small performance enhancement and commit to the repository for another developer to review.

- Test your most recent changes on the development/integration environment and tag the files to be sent to the Test environment.

- Wander over to Orange Leaf for a mid-afternoon break with a few other developers.

- Brainstorming session with junior developer to find solution for an issue they discovered.

- Send reminder email to development team on how to troubleshoot a new dev tool.

- Continue work on a proof of concept to refactor an existing application into a reusable packaged form.

 Risks/Challenges of the role:

- Understanding bigger picture and potential areas of impact.

- Self prioritization/self-defined dates. +the ability to communicate them to the larger team.

- Ability to get answers from the business.

- Keeping motivation w/lack of celebration. These tasks are not 'shiny', and if done correctly will result in no impact or a small performance improvement.

- Ability to break down very large goals into manageable tasks.

- How to enforce best practices?
