Job Description:
The Frederick County Public School System (K-12 enrollment 12,900 students; 24 sites) is seeking applications for the position of Director of Instructional Services-Middle and Secondary. This award winning, highly successful school division cares deeply for its students and staff, maintains modern facilities, has a comprehensive curriculum, and offers a wide range of programs including regional special-education and career and technical offerings.
Qualifications:
Eligible for, or holds, a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in administration and supervision; five years of experience as a middle or secondary teacher. Leadership experience at the building or central office level preferred.
Essential Functions:

Develops long-term and short-term plans that reflect the division's initiatives related to middle and secondary instruction, school improvement planning, and the division comprehensive plan. Develops and coordinates with other staff and departments an aligned approach to K-12 curriculum development, implementation, and system of monitoring. Interprets division secondary curriculum and instructional programs to administrators, instructional personnel, parents, and the community. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of instructional technology. Coordinates the collection and use of data to assess secondary program efficacy and achievement of division objectives. Provides opportunities for staff training and development based on division objectives. Prepares specific reports, grants, and proposals to improve and support the middle and secondary instructional program. Assists in preparation and management of the instructional budget. Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.
Salary Range:
$81,352-$105,732 (2007-08 salary scale. The 2008-09 salary scale has not been determined.)
