Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in recreation, sports management, physical education, leisure services or related degree and four years of recreation management, fitness, wellness issues or related experience; or Master's degree from an accredited institution in recreation, sports management, physical education, leisure services or related degree and two years of recreation management, fitness, wellness issues or related experience. Must have CPR/AED, and First-Aid certifications or the ability to obtain within two months.

Special Instructions to Applicants
Essential Personnel:
Provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus including pre-storm preparation, post-storm clean-up and replacement of stored goods to ready campus for operation after a storm; or other services assigned.
This position requires a police background check and fingerprinting.
Certification required or the ability to obtain within two months:
1) CPR/AED Certification
2) First-Aid Certification
Essential functions of the job include the ability to lift/carry up 50 lbs, to navigate across campus, to stoop, bend and stand for long periods of time and to work nights and weekends.
All rules and regulations concerning the Federal Educational Rights Privacy Act must be followed regarding the handling of all confidential information such as student records, grievance issues, and personnel matters.
Additional materials submitted such as video, tapes, slides, books, etc., are subject to public review under Florida's Public Records law, shall become the property of FGCU, and can not be returned.
Job Description
Reports to the Director of Campus Recreation. Manages the planning, implementation and supervision of specific recreation programs within the Department of Campus Recreation (CR), including the Fitness Center (personal training and group fitness), Intramurals, and Sport Clubs. Will evaluate programs, rules and policies through participant evaluations and staff input. Serves on University, College or Division committees as requested. Provides feedback regarding the safety of programs, equipment and facilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current literature and trends in fitness, intramurals, sport clubs, and risk management. Must have the ability and skill to communicate with the public in a prompt, professional and courteous manner. Ability to work in a highly dynamic and diverse university setting. Proficient with PC computers and the ability to use member tracking and desktop publishing software. Ability to keep current with professional development opportunities (conferences, training sessions, memberships, etc.). Knowledge of recreation, fitness and wellness issues in relation to program development and risk management & liability. Knowledge of safety guidelines for exercise equipment. Knowledge of program development. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Excellent public speaking, public relations and meeting facilitation skills. Ability to hire, train and supervise a diverse range of people.
