Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in music from an accredited institution and professor or advanced associate professor rank or equivalent credentials. Commitment to undergraduate education and scholarship; an outstanding record of achievement in music. and strong planning and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Distinguished artistic or scholarly record (with appropriate degree); demonstrable achievement in professional or academic leadership; a strong record of success in and commitment to teaching; evidence of a sustained interest in professional development; highly developed interpersonal and communications skills; and a strong record of fostering a spirit of collaboration. The candidate should demonstrate significant administrative experience in strategic planning, curriculum development and assessment, accreditation, faculty governance, personnel, community and alumni relations, and budget management.

General Summary Statement:
The College of Arts and Sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Bower School of Music. Florida Gulf Coast University (opened 1997) and its Bower School of Music (opened 2006) seeks strong, collaborative leadership for its rapidly growing undergraduate program, presently featuring curricula in music education and performance. The Director is the primary academic and administrative officer of the unit, reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Duties
Provides academic, artistic and administrative leadership for the Bower School of Music, and organizes resources of the School in teaching, creative activities, research, public service, advocacy, and planning. Works closely with the faculty and other campus administrators to help refine a strategic vision and expand the school's educational and cultural role, locally, regionally, and beyond. Manages academic, fiscal, and personnel matters; plans, develops, and assesses curricular offerings; advances community relations and institutional development; oversees recruitment and advisement of students; and works cooperatively with colleagues to develop and meet institutional goals. Works collaboratively with other campus units, an external advisory council, local supporters, music education and music performance professionals throughout the region, and alumni. Assumes a probable quarter-time teaching assignment in the area of expertise.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess musical skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; planning and organizational skills; and the ability to develop and maintain ongoing positive relationships with community arts constituents. Experience in undergraduate teaching and knowledge of alternative methods of delivering instruction, including the use of music technology and its application to both learning procedures and career development. Experience in higher education leadership and innovative program development. Ability to recruit and develop faculty and a commitment to promoting a multicultural student and faculty environment.
Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
