Minimum Qualifications
MFA in Graphic Design or Digital Media from an accredited institution or equivalent accreditation. Strong evidence of commitment to teaching visual art at the undergraduate level. Demonstrated experience in course development. Experience using and teaching multiple graphics and digital media technologies that generate print, web, and moving images-based results. Professional portfolio documenting a sustained body of creative work in graphic design and/or digital media. Active creative practice.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years undergraduate teaching with emphasis in computer imaging, digital media, and/or graphic design. Experience with online course management systems. Demonstrated engagement with curriculum development and course design. Professional experience in graphic design and/or digital media including photography, video, web, animation, illustration and print applications. Evidence of professional distribution of creative works.
Special Instructions to Applicants
Appointment will be made at a faculty rank commensurate with the candidate's experience on a 9-month multi-year appointment basis available August 2010.
Additional materials such as videos, tapes, slides, books, etc., should not be submitted at this time, however, if contacted for a telephone interview you will be requested to supply the following:
1. 20 images of personal work, 20 images of student work created under applicant's direction. All images should be submitted in a presentation (PowerPoint or equivalent) format compatible with current Mac/PC platforms- One labeled "Last Name, Own Work" the other "Last Name, Student Work."
2. In a separate Word file, include a numbered description of submitted images. Summaries of current (last two years) teaching evaluations if available.
Additional materials submitted such as video, tapes, slides, books, etc., are subject to public review under Florida's Public Records law, shall become the property of FGCU, and can not be returned. We understand that this is contrary to CAA guidelines, but materials need to be retained to meet University documentation of applicants guidelines.
Other Information:
Position will be filled pending budgetary approval.
Initial teaching assignment will be on the main campus but future assignments may include teaching at off-campus sites within our region.
Continuing Multi-Year Appointment including teaching, scholarship and service.
Additional information about the 12 year-old, dynamic, seven full-time faculty member, 150 art majors strong Art Program at FGCU housed in the 30,000 sq. ft. Arts Complex (2002)
General Summary Statement:
Your initial assignment will include teaching at the undergraduate level; course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Duties
Teaches 3/3 course load to include digital media, graphic design, and 2-D foundations. Provides leadership in shaping digital curriculum within B.A. Art program and across relevant disciplines. Services department and university to include curriculum design and development in area of specialization.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 4, Dreamweaver, Flash and Final Cut Express. Broad understanding of the history, theory, and practice of candidate's discipline. Ability to teach introductory through advanced level undergraduate courses in a Macintosh environment. Sense of humor and ability to work with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students in a university setting. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues in multiple disciplines.
Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
