Master's degree in Sociology from an accredited institution or equivalent accreditation. Two years of undergraduate teaching experience beyond graduation. Must meet the University and College criteria for appointment to the level of Instructor I.

Preferred Qualifications
Earned Ph.D. in Sociology from an accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.

Broadly trained in sociology, committed to teaching liberal arts undergraduates, possesses experience teaching a variety of lower and upper level Sociology courses, and approach the teaching of sociology from a global perspective. Expertise in any one or more of the following areas is sought to complement existing strengths: social movements, sociology of religion, sociology of education.

While grounding in discipline knowledge is essential, an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspective with ability to connect discipline expertise to the whole curriculum is also desired.

Appointment will be made on a 9-month multi-year appointment basis available August 2010.

General Summary Statement:
Your initial assignment will include teaching; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as other duties as assigned. Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. A&P/Faculty Job Responsibilities
Duties
Teaches a 4/4 course load. Teaches a broad range of undergraduate Sociology courses, participating in the integrated core of courses for the Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and teaching in the general education program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to connect discipline knowledge and expertise to the whole curriculum is important. Demonstrated ability to develop an outcome-based curriculum, and work collegially to develop interdisciplinary courses. Demonstrated ability to work in an environment that celebrates diversity is essential.
Experience in teaching lower level courses in sociology, and a demonstrated ability to teach upper sociology course.

Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
