Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Journalism or writing-related field, M.F.A. in Journalism or writing-related field, or Master's in Journalism or Journalism-related field including MASS COMMUNICATION, visual, design, photography, or related discipline, from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.

Preferred Qualifications
Five years of significant professional journalism experience. Undergraduate teaching experience. Teaching competence in media law and ethics, news literacy. Experience with public records and database reporting.

Special Instructions to Applicants
Provide links to URLs (or pdf, hard copies, DVD) that demonstrate your media design skills and/or your ability to create multimedia, cross-platform news packages and/or that show examples of student work created in multimedia courses you have taught. If you have taught multimedia courses, provide a sample syllabus.

Appointment will be made at a faculty rank commensurate with the candidate's experience on a 9-month multi-year appointment basis available August 2010.

Additional materials submitted such as video, tapes, slides, books, etc., are subject to public review under Florida's Public Records law, shall become the property of FGCU, and can not be returned.

General Summary Statement:
Your initial assignment will include teaching at the undergraduate level; course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. A&P/Faculty Job Responsibilities
Duties
Teaches undergraduate journalism courses, to include media design and visual communication courses; reporting and writing; online, cross-platform storytelling and production; and other skills/journalism courses. Teaching at first-year to fourth year is expected. Collaborates in creating and teaching multi-platform courses. Supports student journalism and other responsibilities based on interest and need. Faculty member will have an ongoing program of scholarly research and/or creative production in journalism or related field. Assists in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and assessing of programs and curricula for the College of Arts & Sciences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Professional writing and storytelling experience using multimedia. Strong visual journalism skills, including experience with online visual journalism and/or visual videography or photography. Must have news writing, editing and reporting skills; knowledge of grammar and usage and familiarity with AP style.

Strong media design skills; ability to plan and execute multimedia stories including competence with the relevant equipment and software.

Forward thinking about rapidly changing trends in journalism; ability to teach students to thrive in a converged newsroom.

Potential for a significant record of achievement in creative. professional journalism and/or scholarly research.

Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
