Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Philosophy from an accredited institution or equivalent accreditation. Broad background in Philosophy with capacity to teach a variety of courses. Specialty in an area related to ethics, race and gender issues in philosophy. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 2010.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching competence in ethics. Teaching competence in philosophy and race, gender and philosophy, including such areas as feminist philosophy, post-colonial theory, non-western philosophy, and latin american perspectives in philosophy. Teaching competence in at least one of the historical eras of western philosophy. Research program in an area of specialty related to the teaching areas above. Ability to contribute to teaching commitments outside the philosophy major: General Education, interdisciplinary courses, philosophy of communication. Research program in an area of specialty related to the teaching areas above.

General Summary Statement:
Your initial assignment will include teaching at the undergraduate level; course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Duties
Teaches undergraduate courses, including Ethics in Theory and Practice, Philosophy General Education courses, Philosophy of Communication, at least one course in the Philosophy Core Sequence, and Topics and/or History electives related to area of specialty. Develops new courses in areas of ethics, race and gender. Contributes to program teaching responsibilities outside the major, including interdisciplinary, communication, civic engagement, and/or honors courses. Teaches first to fourth year level. Engages in service activities commensurate with interest, abilities and institutional need. Conducts ongoing research activities in area of interest including, but not limited to, ethics, race and gender.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to contribute to teaching commitments outside the philosophy major: General Education, interdisciplinary courses, philosophy of communication.
Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
