Position Purpose And Objectives:
Provides primary care for men, women, and children. Assess and manage the medical care needs of patients in a clinic setting and perform physical examinations and procedures. Make routine diagnosis of injury or illness. The nurse practitioner utilizes skills acquired through advanced training in communication techniques, physical and psychological assessment, and management of clients needs in health and illness. The nurse practitioner functions independently and interdependently under the guidance of and written protocols approved by the Finney County Health Department Health Director, Title X guidelines and all grant requirements. This position is under the general supervision of the Clinical Director.
Essential Functions:
- Assumes responsibility and accountability within moral, ethical, and legal boundaries.
- Assumes responsibility for management of the care of women seeking family planning and gynecologic services.
- Utilizes appropriate communication and interviewing techniques to compile historical and current health data with emphasis on developmental, situational, psycho-social, obstetrical, and gynecological aspects.
- Utilizes correct technique to perform a complete and accurate physical assessment.
- Performs routine laboratory tests - distinguishes between normal and abnormal lab findings.
- Detects deviations from normal - plans and implements management of care as outlined in approved protocols.
- Identifies the need for management and/or care outside the scope of practice and makes appropriate referrals for medical management.
- Provides appropriate client education and preventive health principles.
- Documents client care in an accurate, concise, thorough, and legible form.
- Develops and updates the policies, procedures, and protocols for the Family Planning Program and the Health Department Pharmacy.
- Participates in quality assurance activities.
- Participates in interagency staff meetings and other interagency activities.
- Participates in department staff meetings, in-service programs, and other meetings.
- Responsible for the necessary interaction and communication between the Family Planning Program and the Finney County Health Department Medical Director.
- Assist the Family Planning Director with the administrative reporting as needed.
- Respond to change productively and complete other tasks as required.
General Qualifications:
Knowledge And Skills:
- Knowledge of advanced nursing in women's health issues.
- Knowledge of current principles, practices, methods and techniques in the field of medicine.
- Knowledge of the role of various health care professionals both in the Department and the community.
- Knowledge of medications and their desired effects, side effects, contradictions and complications.
- Knowledge of medical symptoms and findings for the purpose of determining treatment or referral.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of work safety, especially as related to communicable diseases.
- Knowledge of differing cultural, religious, economic and social groups and their relationships to the delivery and acceptance of health care services.
Experience:
- Minimum of six years of nursing experience, and an additional minimum of one year ARNP experience in women's health.
Mental And Physical Abilities:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to assess health and developmental status and use good judgment in management and supervision of others.
- Ability to prepare and present educational information that is age, audience and ethnic appropriate.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
- Must have a willingness to deal with clients and staff at various maturity levels.
Education And Training:
- Bachelor degree in nursing with a Master's Degree/ARNP Certification.
- Kansas license as RN/ARNP.
- Valid Kansas driver license.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Must have previous experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Must have good interpersonal skills, verbal and written.
Access To Protected Health Information:
This position shall have access to all electronic and paper files containing protected health information for the purpose of completing the essential functions of the position in compliance with information privacy laws and Finney County Hybrid Entity internal policies and procedures relating to protected health information. In addition, a confidentiality agreement shall be signed by the employee as it relates to any information, regardless of the manner in which is communicated or maintained.
