Associate Intensive Supervision Officer I

Job Location: Garden City, KS

Department: Community Corrections

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The Associate Supervision Officer Position is responsible for assisting Intensive Supervision Officers with the supervision of Adult Offenders assigned to the Community Corrections program. The Associate Supervision Officer aids in the supervision, accountability and rehabilitation of adult offenders. Work is performed under the general supervision of the ISO II position and Program Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Attends court and provides agency with court orders on offenders assigned to the program.
2. Completes pre-activation /activation paperwork on offenders assigned including offender interviews to obtain appropriate social history and needs assessment materials.
3. Completes collateral contacts on offenders assigned by maintaining regular contacts with treatment programs, employers, spouses or significant others of offenders under supervision.
4. Develops and reviews case supervision plans with offenders.
5. Identifies and makes referrals of offenders to appropriate community resources to aid in the individual recovery and successful completion of court ordered supervision requirements.
6. Completes standardized risk/needs assessment tools to identify supervision levels and requirements.
7. Completes drug testing on offenders using identified agency protocols.
8. All other duties as required.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
1. Knowledge of the process of the judicial system.
2. Knowledge of admission criteria and appropriate utilization of community resources.
3. Knowledge of human behavior including socially deviant behavior.
4. Knowledge of state standards and techniques of supervision of adult offenders.
5. Skills in time management, planning, work organization, job coordination and record keeping skills.
6. Ability to operate computers utilizing designated agency software and systems.
7. Ability to relate to adult offenders and their families.
8. Ability to work well with other professionals as well as independently.
9. Skills in facilitating cognitive behavioral programs.
10. Bilingual abilities preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE
1. A minimum of one year experience in the Criminal Justice Field or related experience with offender populations is required.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES
1. Ability to sit for long periods of time.
2. Ability to input, access and retrieve information from agency computer system.
3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with county officials, agency staff, community based service providers, District Court Judges, KDOC personnel, law enforcement, defense and prosecution counsel and a variety of people from various ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
5. Ability to endure strenuous physical activity and react calmly to dangerous situations.
6. Ability to lift and/or move items weighing in excess of thirty (30) pounds.
7. Ability to maintain professional demeanor when working with offenders.
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
9. Ability to set appropriate personal boundaries.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
1. An Associates degree in criminal justice, social sciences or related field is preferred. A high school diploma with five years experience working in the criminal justice field or with offender populations may be substituted for degree requirement.
2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
3. Must have valid Kansas Drivers license.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Not Applicable.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. This position involves working in an inside office environment.
2. Stressful situations may occur when dealing with the public.
3. This position is frequently exposed to highly contagious and communicable diseases and viruses.
