POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
This position is responsible to promote public health through nursing services to provide disease prevention services and education, testing and immunization activities. The position is under the general supervision of the Clinic Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide public health services, treatment and counseling in accordance with approved health protocols and department operating procedures.
2. Properly and safely administer immunizations and inoculations in accordance with proper procedures.
3. Complete testing and screening procedures and obtain lab specimens.
4. Complete tuberculosis screening, monitoring and medication procedures.
5. Council clients and patients on good personal and public health care practice and procedures.
6. Accurately and legibly maintain files, charts and records related to health services provided.
7. Possess Kan-Be-Healthy certification or be willing to obtain certification within 1 year of hire date.
8. Perform health assessments as directed by State and Federal protocols, and make referrals to physicians or other health care professionals as dictated.
9. Coordinate and present Public Health programs to community agencies,groups or schools as necessary.
10. Attend workshops or seminars to increase knowledge and maintain nursing licensure.
11. Be able to work well with others and conduct themselves in a professional manner.
12. Respond to change productively and complete other tasks as assigned. Be willing to cross train to work in other grant programs within the department.
13. Provide offsite clinics as determined by community needs and Public Health matters.
14. Provide accurate, complete, timely information for quarterly reports.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :
1. General nursing skills.
2. Knowledge of health record-keeping procedures.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
1. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
2. Ability to administer physical health tests and immunizations.
3. Ability to maintain accurate records of services provided.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with the clientele and their families.
5. Ability to provide nursing services within clients homes.
6. Ability to function in unstructured setting in a self-directed manner.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Associate degree in nursing, minimum.
2. Kansas license as Registered Nurse.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May be required to coordinate or be a team leader for grant programs as assigned.
ACCESS TO PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION:
This position shall have access to all electronic and paper files containing protected health information for the purpose of completing the essential functions of the position in compliance with information privacy laws and Finney County Hybrid Entity internal policies and procedures relating to protected health information. In addition, a confidentiality agreement shall be signed by the employee as it relates to any information, regardless of the manner in which is communicated or maintained.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
1. This position involves work in an inside office environment, travel to offsite clinics and to other facilities as required.
2. Stressful situations may occur when dealing with the public.
3. This position is frequently exposed to highly contagious and communicable diseases and viruses.
4. At times nursing services may be required in client's homes or other settings.
