Position Purpose And Objectives:
This position provides evaluation and assessment of substance abusers to determine an appropriate course of intervention. The Counselor is responsible for providing individual and group therapy sessions to offenders in need of such services. Referrals shall be accepted from the Community Corrections staff, State Parole Officers, Court Services Officers or other community referral sources.
Essential Functions:
1. Interview and evaluate substance abusers upon referral using recognized assessment tools to determine if further counseling is warranted.
2. Coordinate referrals for services through the Rehabilitative Services Coordinator and referring supervision officer to ensure offenders needing services are placed in appropriate setting. Serve as agency liaison with inpatient treatment programs.
3. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with standards established by ADAS.
4. Develop and maintain client files including: development of treatment plans; maintaining daily progress reports; provide feedback as to client treatment performance to referral source and compile statistic data as necessary.
5. Work with other staff members as well as outside agencies to address client needs.
6. Hold offenders accountable in their attendance, participation and growth throughout the treatment process.
7. Works with the program Director to establish and maintain program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with ADAS standards for program performance.
8. Performs related work as required.
General Qualifications:
Knowledge And Skills:
1. Knowledge of social services and area resources.
2. Excellent writing skills.
3. Knowledge and techniques in conducting interviews and family assessments.
4. Ability to supervise an offender caseload.
5. Bilingual preferred but not required.
Experience:
1. Minimum two years experience facilitating groups.
Mental And Physical Abilities:
1. Ability to sit for long periods of time.
2. Ability to access input and retrieve information from a computer.
3. Ability to accurately interpret laws, policies, and regulations.
4. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
5. Ability to work with offenders and facilitate group counseling programs in a highly professional manner.
Education And Training :
1. An associates degree in social sciences, criminal justice, psychology or related field.
2. Current ADAS certification.
3. Must have successfully completed all probation or parole requirements and established a minimum of two years sobriety prior to consideration for employment.

1. None.
