Duties:
Serves as a registered mammographer performing routine to very difficult radiographic examinations of well and diseased breasts. Performs radiologic procedures and examinations such as film screen and digital mammography, mammogram guided needle biopsy procedures and core biopsies. Receives patient, explains methods and procedures, and answers questions to allay fears. Sets and adjusts accessory equipment. Makes several exposures on own initiative to provide complete studies for the radiologist's review and interpretation. Adjusts procedure and positioning technique according to type of patient being examined, sets up mammography suite; assures that sterile supplies, contrast materials, biopsy needles and other equipment required are present. Follows and maintains sterile field procedures. Maintains strict adherence to mammography guidelines to ensure the integrity and consistency of mammographic studies. Provides support to radiographic technologists when mammograms are not needed.

About the Position:
Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. Qualifications:
* Basic Requirements:
* NOTE: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who admins radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education AND be certified radiographers.
* EDUCATION/TRAINING: Qualifying educational programs for radiography & radiation therapy technology are available in accredited colleges, universities, hospitals, med schools or postsecondary technical/vocational schools. Education or training from programs based in hospitals must have been from those hospitals that were accredited at the time of the education or training by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals or by the American Osteopathic Association.
* MUST be a certified Radiologic Technologist (RT) AND a certified Mammographer (M) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
* In addition basic requirements: Applicants must have a minimum of 1 year specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service.
* Specialized experience is described as experience in the operation of mammography equipment under the direction of radiologist or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis & treatment.
