Duties:
As desk sergeant; directs, coordinates, and oversees desk operations and provides general supervision to civilian employees and technical guidance/direction to military/civilian police personnel. Receives and records radio, telephone, and personal messages; requests for information and assistance; and calls involving emergencies, etc. Patches telephone calls into local and state police officers; relays messages and instructions to patrol officers and dispatches police officers to investigate incidents. Searches prisoners and removes weapons and articles which could cause injury or be used in an escape. Maintains records; prepares journals/blotters/reports; and reviews police reports for clarity/legibility, accuracy, etc. Responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Intrusion Detection Alarm System. Maintains key control for high security areas on post; coordinates MEDEVAC flights, fires, motor vehicle accidents, etc. with appropriate personnel

This position is supervised by the Watch Commander, Directorate of Emergency Services. This position is located on Historic Main Post, Fort Riley, KS.
This job provides the opportunity for the incumbent to work with Department of the Army Police and Military Police in resolving issues presented to Emergency Service Dispatchers. To be successful the Desk Sergeant will need to have exceptionally strong communication skills and an extensive knowledge of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), Kansas and Federal laws.

Qualifications:
General Schedule
* SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level. Specialized experience is further defined as skill in preparing accurate and concise police reports; experience with procedures related to the search and seizure of evidence and contraband; and experience operating a variety of automation equipment in use which includes: National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal, Internal Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance system, JSIIDS and Commercial intrusion detection systems in order to provide guidance of their operation to subordinate desk personnel or other work that is in or typically related to the work of the position to be filled.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must be able to pass, prior to hiring, a physical and mental examination and undergo annual physical and mental examinations to ensure fitness for duty and must pass, within 6 months of hiring, a physical agility test. Must pass a Criminal History Background Check. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.Must have successfully completed one of the following: Mixed Basic Police Officer Training Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC); An accredited civilian (Local or State) Law Enforcement Training Academy; A certified Military or Security Police training program (i.e. the United States Army Military Police School), or, if not previously certified, personnel must be able to successfully complete a Police Officer Training Course when offered.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
* A medical examination is required.

* License/Certification: Valid State and Military Drivers License. CPR and First Aid Certification
