Duties:
The position is located at the Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, KS. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Chief of Primary Care, IACH. The incumbent serves as an expert in the field of family medicine. The individual exercises independent judgment in selection and performance of the full range of diagnostic procedures for patients. Incumbent works independently in accordance with methods and practices of the medical profession and established administrative policies as an expert in the field of Family Practice. Medical diagnoses are based on evaluation and reviewed by internal chart review. The individual has considerable latitude for professional technical decisions, overall effectiveness, and accomplishment of objectives. The quality of professional and administrative work is evaluated using the quality assurance principles, policies and regulations as mandated by The Joint Commission, and as structured by appropriate Army and local regulations.
About the Position:
Performs, in an outpatient clinic, a wide range of medical duties covering primary care, where many patients have multiple interacting acute and chronic medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis and cancer. Examines patients, orders and evaluates the full range of radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnosis and prescribes appropriate treatment to include drugs, inoculations, nursing and dietary care. Refers to appropriate specialty clinic only when required for evaluation and/or treatment. Provides prescription renewal and telephone consultative services. Periodically provides episodic care to APPC patients. Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems who were screened and referred by the Emergency Room for follow-up.
Must have Board Certification in Family Practice.

Basic Requirements:
Degree: MD or DO from a school in the US or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. An MD or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the US may be demonstrated by permanent certification by ECFMG or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the US and graduate education in a foreign country.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining an MD or DO, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. (This 1 year of supervised experience may be waived for research or administrative positions not requiring direct patient care.) For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the US or Canada. Listings of accredited programs are published yearly in the Directory of Residency Training Programs and the Yearbook and Directory of Osteopathic Physicians.
Licensure: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, DC, Puerto Rico, or a territory of the US.
