Duties:
As a charge nurse, performs a variety of administrative/floor duties as an extension and in support of the head nurse. Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in one or more (med/surg, ob/gyn, emergency room). Makes nursing care assignments to various skill levels of professional and nonprofessional personnel. Inputs and accesses patient data using Composite Health Care System computer terminal. Inputs patient acuities into the Workload Management System for Nurses. Ensures appropriate patient education occurs during the shift and that the appropriate responses to patient emergencies are made. Verifies and annotates all physician's orders written during the shift. Reviews and revises nursing care plans as needed. Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients based on physician's medical care plan and the physical, mental and emotional needs of the patient.

This position is located at Irwin Army Community Hospital, Caisson Hill Road (Main Post), Fort Riley, KS.
This job provides the opportunity to serve as a Intermittent Nurse and provide various nursing care to patients in one or more of the areas in the hospital (LABOR/DELIVERY, MED/SURG or Emergency Room). You may be placed in one of the areas or float. An intermittent work schedule requires employees to work on an irregular basis for which there is no prearranged tour of duty.
NOTE:
Superior qualification pay may be paid based on the specialized experience an applicant possesses.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. REGISTRATION: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the Basic Requirements, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is further defined as experience with professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures to make nursing care assignments to personnel, monitor and proviced patient care in labor/delivery, med/surg or emergency room settings, operate specialized medical equipment or other work typically in or related to the position being filled. **OR Completion of 2 1/2 years of progressively higher level graduate education. Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled.
