Duties:
As a Clinical Nurse in the EMS section, you will perform administrative/floor duties as an extension and in support of the head nurse. Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Emergency Room. Assigns staff to patient care duties based on patient condition and expertise of staff. Verifies and annotates all physicians orders written during the shift. Reviews and revises-nursing care plans as needed. Administers oxygen, IV fluid, blood transfusion and prescribed oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications. Sets up, operates and monitors specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, respirators, defibrillators, etc. Performs initial evaluation and screening of patients to determine priorityof treatment. Recognizes life-threatening conditions that require immediate attention of Emergency Room physician/nursing staff and responds accordingly.

This position is located at Irwin Army Community Hospital, Department of Primary Care, EMS, Caisson Hill Road (Main Post), Fort Riley, KS.
This position is under the supervision of the Chief, EMS Division.
This position provide a variety of comprehensive nursing care to patients in the EMS.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. REGISTRATION: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the Basic Requirements, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is further defined as experience with nursing concepts, principles and practices to assess patients with life threatening health problems and complex health care needs requiring management at all levels of treatment; to include treatment plans and coordinate patient services in an emergency room setting or other work typically in or related to the position being filled.

- This position is a TERM position. It is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of four years.

- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification Current Advanced Life Support of other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
