Position: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-0647-5/06/07/08/09
Salary: $30,772 - $71,520 Annual
Place of Work: Projected Duty Locations
23%-25% COLA will be added to the base salary for the states of Alaska and Hawaii.
Appropriate overseas COLA may be added to the base salary for overseas locations.

Duties: Diagnostic Radiological Technologists perform x-ray examinations under the direction of a physician. Work involves the operation of radiological equipment in a hospital. May perform some or all of the following duties: A variety of computerized axial tomographic examination such as intravenous cholangiography, linear tomography; cerebral arteriography/venography, carotid arteriography, myelography and other specialized invasive procedures; cardiac catheterizations. Trains employees, coordinates radiation safety; receives patients and explains procedures, prepares x-ray room and equipment; performs portable and pediatric radiography on wards, in clinic, operating room, emergency room, and recovery room. Performs other duties as assigned.

About the Position: Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP.   • Basic Requirements:
  • Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who admins radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education AND be certified radiographers.
    All applicants must meet the requirements below:
  • MUST be a certified Radiologic Technologist (RT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.In addition to Basic Requirements
  • Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 & above): 1 yr specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills & abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist in the operation of diagnostic radiologic equipment under the direction of radiologist or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis & treatment. Specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service.
  • or Education & Training: Qualifying educational programs for radiography & radiation therapy technology are available in accredited colleges, universities, hospitals, medical schools or postsecondary technical/vocational schools. Education or training from programs based in hospitals must have been from those hospitals that were accredited at the time of the education or training by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals or by the American Osteopathic Association. For GS-5: Successful completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration in a post-high school radiography program. Successful completion of a course for medical radiologic technicians in the Armed Forces is qualifying on a month-for-month basis up to the l year of specialized experience required for GS-5.
