Duties: Constructs fixed prostheses, reviews prescriptions, and determines work processes. Fabricates fixed bridges, jacket crowns, or veneers, including porcelain fused to metal. Produces platinum matrices, prepares precious metal framework for veneers, degasses metals, applies bonding agents, and opaques porcelain. Applies and fuses body and incisal porcelains. Mounts models on articulator; carves wax patterns for abutment and pontics. Operates and performs user maintenance for porcelain furnace and other ceramic equipment. Uses a knowledge of the physics of light for proper shading and development of hues and shades of duplicate natural tooth colors, including staining, simulated fillings, fissures, and other abnormalities.Fabricates "precision attachment" type of semi-fixed restorations.Fabricates fixed bridges and crowns of acrylic. Repairs broken bridges and partial dentures. Selects correct mold and shade of broken teeth.
About the Position: Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. General Schedule
GS-5 Level: Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program consisting of at least 2000 hours a year for three years. GS-6 Level: Successful completion of a full 4-year apprenticeship program consisting of at least 2000 hours per year GS-7 Level: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, GS-06, is required. -OR-1 year of graduate education where it is directly related to the work of the position.Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: (1) Use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials. (2) Use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment. (3) Use of precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers. (4) Construction of dental prosthetic appliances. Successful completion of training courses in dental laboratory work in the Armed Forces or other Federal agencies will be allowed appropriate credit for specialized experience on a month-for-month basis for the GS-5.
