The Optimizer will work in the Quad with the Plant Superintendent, Operations/Maintenance Gatekeeper (OMG), and Asset Availability Leader (AAL).  The Vision of the Quad is to continually drive Operations Excellence in the Taylorsville Plywood facility.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the effort to identify, investigate, recommend, and implement equipment improvements, new systems and process changes that will improve uptime/productivity, yield, quality and/or reduce costs.
  • Schedule production for all aspects of the plant (green veneer, dry veneer, press production and finishing).
  • Owner of daily operating plan to optimize inventory, production and maintenance work plans.
  • Understand gaps in scheduling performance; work with leadership to develop action plans to improve.
  • Utilize data to optimize process requirements.
  • Develop, lead, and manage the Veneer Management Program for the plant.
  • Develop tracking spreadsheets/programs to optimize multiple variables for inventory and scheduling balance.
  • Assist operators with day-to-day cost and productivity issues. Focus on increasing efficiency and reducing waste and operating costs.
  • Work closely with AAL and OMG to optimize overall plant performance.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of scheduled downs and outages. Continually strive to reduce planned and unplanned downtime.
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelors Degree or higher in Engineering or Technical Discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, etc.).
  • Three (3) or more years of industrial manufacturing or military experience. 

  • Must be able and willing to work in a plywood manufacturing plant environment, including extended periods of time in noisy, non-air conditioned or unheated areas.
  • Must be able and willing to work safely, including wearing and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekend duty as necessary to manage facility performance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in Production Control or Scheduling
  • Linear programming experience
  • Plywood Industry experience
KNOWLEDGE - SKILLS - ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Ability to provide influential leadership to meet  critical operating targets
  • Capability to optimize the mill through rigorous analysis and economic thinking
  • Strong Plywood Process Knowledge preferred
  • Proven communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on Excel, functional databases and data analysis
  • Small and Large project experience
