Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products is seeking an experienced Manager - Packaging Development Engineering at our iNNOVATION institute in Neenah, Wisconsin. The role will manage new and innovative technical package design concepts for GP Professional, Food Service and Dispenser Solutions for a portfolio of innovative name brand products including; enMotion towels, soaps and sanitizers, Dixie SmartStock cutlery, and Angel Soft Ultra toilet paper. The Packaging Manager will develop packaging solutions throughout the entire distribution and storage cycle of our products and dispensers. This role requires a creative and open-minded approach in the pursuit of product/package discovery, exploration, experimentation, analysis and commercialization. A key element of support will be to gain an understanding of client needs, development processes, manufacturing and distribution channels and an analysis of customer`s packaging needs. This role will prepare and present technical solution proposals to be integrated and implemented with GP systems, processes and equipment to assure completed plans are feasible, within cost, time and environment constraints. QUALIFICIATIONS: o Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science or Technical discipline required o Bachelors Degree in Packaging, Mechanical, Materials or Polymer Engineering preferred o Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) certification preferred o Minimum of 8 years Packaging R&D experience in CPG, medical devices or small appliance industries required o Leadership experience required o Experience with front end, creative package design and packaging material types and applications (e.g. flexible films, paper, paperboard, corrugated board, rigid/semi-rigid containers/closures, controlled atmospheric, and protective packaging) required o Professional work experience with Retail, Club and Mass Merchandising channel packaging required o Experience with AutoCAD, Pro-E or SolidWorks design software preferred o CAPE or TOPS experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE- SKILLS- ABILITES: o Have knowledge of supply chain process concept through commercialization. o Comprehensive track record of achievement from package design and materials selection, through criteria evaluation, validation, and implementation. Working knowledge of Design of experiments" and other analytical tools critical in developing packaging components. o Possesses a strong science and/or engineering foundation in order to quickly learn new technical fields and identify reapplication opportunities from other industries. o Demonstrated experience in packaging automation and manufacturing, including FFS, Plastic molding, and assembly processes utilizing RF, Ultra Sonic heating and welding. o Solid understanding of cGMP, ISO, FDA, ASTM and other regulatory guidelines relating to both regulated and unregulated product/component packaging. o Understanding of statistical relationships as they pertains to package/design qualification and validation for completed packaging systems. o Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues. Displays tenacity, resilience and thoroughness to get ideas fully vetted.Responsibilities o Conduct broad and in-depth technical assessments, including other aspects such as: supply chain, manufacturing, cost drivers, potential Intellectual Property issues and consumer impact from concept development phase through implementation. o Lead coordination, development and implementation of packaging systems for GP Professional including the Dispenser Technology development group, servicing GP Consumer Products. o Drive development of packaging material standards, systems standards, test procedures and policies to support product release for manufacture of new product launches, line extensions, and existing products. o Lead packaging development programs from concept through commercialization that meet the requirements of primary functional owners (marketing, R&D, operations, distribution, procurement and sales). o Consults with internal clients and external resources to provide optionality to packaging structural implementation challenges, while preserving design integrity and maintaining cost parameters and deadlines. o Assures compliance with regulatory packaging requirements for both domestic and international distribution and be an effective leader to ensure GP primary and secondary packaging meet worldwide cGMP registration requirements in addition to other necessary certification processes (e.g. DOT certification, International Compliance standards ISO 9000, Hazardous Materials, etc.). o Leads packaging interface with other functions such as: Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing and Procurement. o Recognized as an effective /knowledgeable technical resource (Go-To) for packaging materials, processes, and problem resolution (root cause analysis). o Coordinate, manage and maintain all project information (i.e. revision level, changes, product line, project design costs, etc.) to ensure accurate project progress reporting. o Drive the creation of a broad exclusionary strategy (Intellectual Property) where applicable.
