Utilities Operations/Maintenance Gatekeeper

  • Role works closely with maintenance and utilities operations to create the greatest long term value for Georgia Pacific
  • Role is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate maintenance work is planned, scheduled and completed to meet the business needs in the most economical and effective manner
  • Responsibilities will include system knowledge of power boilers, recovery boilers, evaporators, turbine generators, mechanical drive turbines, water plants, and the other auxiliary equipment supporting utilities operations

Expectations/Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Manage and prioritize daily maintenance activities in the utilities department in order to improve the safety and reliability of our equipment.
  • Review and approve work requests within the department insuring that requested work is value added
  • Manage and prioritize work request and work order backlogs for the department
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production supervisors and the asset availability leader to organize the facilitys reliability program and ensure PMs are completed on time
  • Ensure that safety and environmental work orders are addressed in a timely manner
  • Work with personnel initiating work requests to improve the quality of information provided
  • Manage maintenance costs for the department and ensure alignment with the mills financial goals
  • Monitor work progress metrics and role performance data and drive process improvement to lower monthly maintenance costs while maintaining equipment reliability
  • Coach operators and mechanics on recognizing equipment needs, taking ownership and becoming reliability leaders
  • Assist in the development of reliability plans on critical equipment
  • Embrace and cultivate the Market Based Management (MBM) culture throughout the department by utilizing the MBM framework and guiding principles in everyday decision making
  • Utilize economic thinking to help drive the reliability efforts, outages efforts, and process improvements

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in maintenance or operations

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities:

  • Clear understanding of reliability based maintenance and power operations
  • Experience managing maintenance financial plans
  • Experience working in a team environment with a cooperative work style
  • Proven communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Proven computer skills with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and CMMS experience
