BASIC FUNCTION/SCOPE: - Responsible for implementing quality programs. Provides support and direction in the implementation and administration of quality systems. Analyzes the effectiveness of the quality system and coordinates quality related issues with customers, suppliers, and other functional disciplines.
- The Quality Engineer will build expertise and ownership that can then be translated into right first time, builds.
- This role will create true product champions who are able to speak with authority and knowledge about their product group(s) and form part of a world class team, who are able to stand with customers and discuss the performance, application and general quality of their product.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plant Quality Management - Integral to day-to-day operations for quality issues
- Formulates and maintains quality objectives complementary to company policies and goals.
- Plays active role on quality management teams within organization.
- Designs and implements quality training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.
Communication - Capable of interfacing with multiple levels of people within the organization and customers
- Interprets quality vision to plant personnel and management
- Plays lead role in coordinating plant quality initiatives; often required to influence members of peer group and non-direct reporting functions.
- Communicates quality issues across all areas of the company.
- Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.
- Investigates and adjusts to customer complaints regarding quality. Provides technical assistance to customers with respect to quality issues and customer satisfaction opportunities.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and plant personnel.
Quality Assurance - Ensure effective Management of Change process for all modifications.
- Performs quality engineering reviews of documentation for conformance with stated requirements, including quality manuals and plant quality records.
- Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
- Follow up and track the action plans of corrective actions.
- Perform internal audits/surveys and facilitate action plans, where applicable, to assure conformance to specific quality/customer requirements and for non-conformances/customer complaints and claims.
- Audit and validate Statistical Process Control data and procedures for assigned product area(s).
- Reviews all data obtained during all quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
- Maintains a working knowledge of UL, FM and industry quality codes and standards.
- Prepare periodic and special reports on quality statistics and other related quality issues on assigned product area(s).
- Review manufacturing planning (work order), methods and process specifications as it relates to assuring product quality.
Supervisory Role - Oversees and assists workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, and products.
Continuous Improvement - Manage statistical analysis that identifies anomalies, recurring problems, outliers and other forms to statistical process control of the operations within the plant
- Drives Continuous Process Improvement activities throughout the organization using statistical techniques and lean methodology.
- Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality activities and establishes permanent corrective actions, and verifies the effectiveness (quantitatively) of those actions.
- Drive to improve product/process yields, reduce defects, and subsequently improve delivery and product to the customer.
BASIC REQUIREMENT: - Associate`s degree or higher in a technical field and a certification in Quality OR a Bachelors degree or higher in engineering from an accredited college or university.
- One (1) or more years of experience managing or developing quality processes in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills addressing manufacturing related problems.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Direct experience in statistical analysis through working at a manufacturing facility or supporting a mill
- Must be a consummate professional in dealing with customers, sometimes in very difficult situations.
- Must be able to lead by example with respect to quality policy/philosophy.
- Strong analytical skills, effective leadership and interpersonal skills, strong decision making skills, and good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Must be able to travel nationally up to 25%
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Certificate from a Quality Institution, such as CQE, CQA.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Experience in gypsum manufacturing or building products.
- Supervisory experience
