Georgia-Pacific is recruiting for Utility Operators located at our facility located in New Augusta, MS. The responsibilities of the Utilities Operator will include:

RESPONSIBILTIES:

Utilities Technicians are responsible for generating power through the operation of boilers and steam driven turbine generators. They are also responsible for the recovery and conversion of spent chemicals for reuse in the pulp production processes.They will perform various manual tasks and be expected to perform lead duties and maintain equipment and work areas. The Utilities Technician is also responsible for tall oil production and the transfer to rail cars or trucks. Candidates must be willing and able to work rotating 12 hour swing shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Candidates must also be willing to work outdoors in variable climates and conditions 50-80% of the day.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

o High School Diploma or equivalent

o 2 years of study at an accredited college in a technical field or 2 years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.

o Basic computer skills (data entry)

  • Willingness to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
  • Ability to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods (lifting, walking, climbing, pushing, twisting, stooping)
  • Willingness to wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, face shield, hard hat, 6 top leather steel toe boots, fall protection, kevlar sleeves, fire resistant hoods and coat, chemical suit, chemical boots and goggles)
  • Willingness to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, uneven surfaces, and with chemicals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

o Bachelors degree in chemical or technical field of study

o Steam/power generation experience

o Pulp and paper facility experience

o Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (word - document creation, access, excel - updating and creating spreadsheets)

o Basic knowledge of process control systems
