Role
Facility Safety & Health Leader

Summary
Provide leadership, strategic direction, and counsel to the facility through the application of the MBM Framework and Guiding Principles. Ensure that all facility Health and Safety (H&S) activities, systems, and plans effectively drive H&S performance that meets or exceeds business and company H&S objectives and requirements.

The ideal candidate must be able to embrace change, possess strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to efficiently balance multiple priorities. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate must also be self-motivated, have sound decision making skills, good organization skills, and the ability to lead through others in maintaining and improving the Safety performance of the facility.

Position reports directly to the Facility Plant Manager, with a dotted line to the Operations Health & Safety Leader.

Qualifications
Basic
  • B.S. in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Health & Safety experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Leadership experience
Preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • M.S. in Health & Safety or related field

Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and strategic direction to achieve the facilitys H&S vision.
2. Develop tools/methods to understand facility culture and then build strategies to close gaps in organizational and personal risk tolerance.
3. Provide coaching and mentoring to facilitate ownership for safety to the line level.
4. Develop systems/methods for identifying hazards and evaluating risk in existing and future equipment, processes, operations (i.e. risk assessments, near misses, etc.)
5. Prescribe control solutions to eliminate hazards and causes of loss events and to reduce the chance of loss when hazards cannot be eliminated.
6. Develop, with facility leadership, short and long term H&S strategies which integrate safety performance into the facilitys day-to-day operation.
7.Ensure the facility attracts, develops, and retains the H&S talent and fosters an environment that motivates a team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.
8.Evaluate the effectiveness of the Wood Products Safety Management System, analyze overall facility H&S trends and check and adjust methods, systems, and strategies accordingly.
9.Monitor compliance with Georgia-Pacifics H&S Standards and Best Practices.
10. Leads the case management process for all accident and injuries for the facility
