The Chip Quality Manager is responsible for measuring, detecting and correcting issues with the manufacture and supply of wood chips from and to our manufacturing facilities. The Chip Quality Manager will provide leadership by closely monitoring each pulp mills needs as well as providing research into chip manufacturing so as to provide the highest quality product. In this role, the successful candidate will provide written and verbal feedback to all suppliers, provide advice to chip manufacturing facilities as to proper set up of screens and chippers (both internal and external) as well as consultation with the Fiber Managers so as to improve supplier quality performance. In addition, the successful candidate will provide research and recommendations around new sampling and testing technology, new chipper technology as well as understand yield variables from chips produced from various wood sources. Working in a safe manner while inspecting or helping solve issues will be a requirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety and compliance
Lead the effort to maximize chip quality at suppliers mills.
Improvement of wood and chip quality in MS and other areas.
Perform and report on basic analysis regarding expected yields and chip distribution from various inputs.
Demonstrate good communication skills (the candidate will be dealing not only with GP mill employees but owners of non-GP chip suppliers and will be working toward convincing those contacts to make changes in their equipment set-up).
Individual will be required to take and move chip samples out of a mill environment - should be able to pick up and carry 30 pounds.
Management and maintenance of wood chipping equipment.
Have a vehicle or willing to purchase a vehicle capable of traveling ~30,000 miles annually and hauling chip samples and traversing Woodyard terrain (pickup)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree or higher in Engineering, Wood Science, Forestry or Business.
Experience with Sawmill/Paper mill or Woodyard equipment (motors, belts, screens, chippers).
Computer Skills using Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel (pivot tables and Vlookups) and Access.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Process Improvement Experience.
Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in a production mill setting.
Leadership experience in mechanical or electrical/instrumentation maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Ability to lead operations to safety excellence.
Working knowledge of industrial wood products manufacturing and maintenance.
Strong interpersonal skills in talent development and leadership to optimize performance .
Strong strategic planning and organization skills.
