Certified Railway Car Repairman Reporting to the Transportation Operations Manager of the Old Augusta Railroad, the Certified Railway Car Repairman will repair and inspect railway cars according to FRA and company regulations. Primary Job Duties o Inspects car components for compliance with AAR, FRA and company standards o Performs maintenance activity, both scheduled and on demand, including air brake tests, lubrication and cleaning of moving parts o Repairs, removes and replaces defective components as needed o Prepares numerous written reports/forms including bad order forms; AAR billing forms; dimensional loading forms o Prepares record of car repairs for monthly billing process o Performs re-railing activities, emergency and other repairs within yard limits, on the road and at industrial sites o Repairs, removes or replaces components with the use of air jacks, blocks; cutting and heating torch and other hand tools o Uses hand tools, power tools, and other measuring equipment required in the performance of duties o Inspects, measures, and secures lading in open top cars o Performs FRA inspections on locomotives o Performs locomotive repairs o Performs Engineer, Conductor and Brakeman duties when needed Qualifications Required o High School Diploma or GED o Experience in operation, maintenance, repair, & troubleshooting of railroad equipment o Must have at least 2 years of experience in Railroad Car Repair o Welding experience o Possession of valid drivers license o Ability to perform essential functions of position such as lifting, pushing/pulling, grip, reach, sitting, standing, forward bending, ladder & stair climbing, coordination and awkward positions. o Ability to work in an environment with regular exposure to sparks, fumes, noise, vibration, confined spaces, moving equipment/machinery and outdoor weather Preferred o Completion of Railroad Apprenticeship/Training program o Shortline Railroad operation experience o Locomotive Engineer Certification Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
