Job Description:
The Medical Transcriptionist II works under the supervision of the Team Leader-Health Information Services. The Transcriptionist is a medical language specialist who interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, workup, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc., in order to document patient care, facilitate delivery of healthcare services and to provide timely reimbursement.
Performs other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Employee in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Transcribes reports from dictation system to the computer.
Make calls to other departments for information needed to complete transcription.
Maintains production levels above 140 lines/hr and at least a 98% quality rating.
Actively participates in work team activities and assignments.
Participates in error-correction rotation.
Answers questions and concerns from customers, either in person or on telephone.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent. Graduate of vocational school with classes that includes medical and pharmaceutical terminology or two years acute med/surg hospital transcription experience.
LICENSURE: None
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 80-85 wpm at 98% accuracy. Word Perfect experience necessary. Excellent spelling and grammar skills. Must maintain reasonable production standard by end training period. Must maintain monthly production of 140 lines/hr or higher. Not eligible for Transcriptionist I position.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Excellent eye, hand and auditory coordination.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be courteous; work in a professional, caring manner with internal and external customers; have the ability to work with interruptions, and flexibility in hours and workflow, foster teamwork and promote service and quality in everything.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 10 to 25 pounds.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Comprehend, understand, synthesize, explain, assess, evaluate, short and long term memory, concentration/alertness, follow rules/instructions, adaptability, organizational skills, planning, analyze, manipulate numbers, and calculate. Must be able to comprehend accents and foreign dialects. Must be able to adapt to change.
ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to listen to dictation of all persons utilizing the dictating system and transcribe into the computer. Must visualize correctness of report and be able to make corrections.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Electrical output of personal computer, eye and neck strain.
