Job Description:
The Office Nurse works under the supervision of Clinic Coordinator. The Office Nurse performs patient assessment and follows established standards and practices for nursing care. May assume responsibility for the supervision of other nursing staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Employees in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. Obtains medical histories and vitals.
Assists physician with procedures and properly maintains equipment before and after procedures.

Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients and/or family members in the collection of samples and tests.
Review medical charts for completeness. Documents all medications, refills, telephone conversations and patient visits in the medical record.
Monitors the scheduling of patients, answers patient inquiries, and maintains timely flow of patients. Provides education to patients as instructed by physicians.
Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and equipment. Ensures cleanliness and orders medications.
Oversees the administration of all IV medications as directed by the physicians.

Participates in professional development activities and maintains licensure and other professional affiliations.
Maintains strict patient confidentiality.
May perform supervisory duties as directed by the Clinical Coordinator.
Documents all assessments, treatments, procedures, and medications in medical record, electronic or paper per standard.
Complies with all Regulatory agencies, directives, standards and regulations.
Provides education to patients about their condition or medications. Does this in relationship to their learning needs assessment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

LICENSURE:
Missouri Registered Nursing License. BLS required.

EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years office nursing or One (1) year hospital experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICIAN/MOTOR SKILLS:
Ability to communicate clearly to patients, physicians and staff. Must demonstrate precise eye/hand coordination and fine motor skills for IV procedures, blood pressure checks, injections and medical procedures.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Displays a friendly, positive attitude and communicates with patients, families, physicians and co-workers in a professional manner. Ability to communicate in verbally and written.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and lift. Must follow good body mechanics.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES:
Ability to collect thorough information regarding patient's condition and evaluate effects of care; must be able to visually inspect patient's condition. Problem solve, manipulate numbers, adaptability, interpret data, calculate, comprehend, understand, explain, assess, evaluate short term and long term memory.

ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to assess patients and nursing staff by visual observation. Hear patients in person and on the telephone and be able to verbally respond. Must be able to feel to take blood pressure and pulse.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, body fluids, needle sticks and other conditions common to a medical clinic environment.
