Job Description:
The Cook works under the supervision of Chef. Prepares hot foods for patients, special functions, and cafeteria following standardized recipes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Employees in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Prepares food for patients, special functions, and cafeteria using standardized recipes in the amount specified by production sheets; utilizing food and plate presentation as instructed by the chef.

Processes all food and operates equipment according to sanitary and safety regulations.

Maintains clean work area and equipment.

Inventories and utilizes in a timely manner any perishable and over produced food items.

Helps with training of new cooks.

Job Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School or equivalent.

LICENSURE: N/A

EXPERIENCE: Previous institutional cooking 1 year preferred.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Ability to operate equipment such as steam equipment, blenders, food processor, chopper, slicer, fryer, ovens, grills, scales, can openers, etc. Hand/eye coordination to portion foods; be able to cook recipes and incorporate ingredients.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Cooperates with fellow employees and good customer relations.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift 50+ lbs., reaching and moving items from storeroom, coolers, freezers, etc. Placing and removing item (50+ lbs.) from hot ovens to steam equipment and fryers. Pushing carts (50-100 lbs.) filled with completed foods. Must be able to move from area to area; stand for entire shift. Reach inside to clean ovens; wiping off work surfaces; bending and stooping to clean equipment.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Ability to calculate quantities of ingredients needed to prepare products; manipulate recipes for proper quantities needed. Ability to understand and be able to follow procedures on recipes. Ability to organize workflow process to meet meal service time deadlines.

ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Ability to visually inspect food for quality; smell food products to ensure food quality; taste for quality. Ability to read schedules, memos, policies, and procedures. Must be able to read and follow recipes.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Chemicals, burns, slips, cuts, and back injuries.
