Job Description:
The Laundry Associate works under the supervision of the Manager - Linen Services. The department personnel are responsible for soiled linen pickup, sorting, washing, drying, ironing, and folding of linen and delivery to using departments or storage.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Employees in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Loads/unloads and operates each piece of equipment to include washers, dryers, spreader, feederolder stacker, blanket machine, towel machine, conveyor and flow rack.
Operates and has working knowledge of all equipment, safety and hazard standards for each machine, role or task.
Duties include the retrieval of soiled linens from all chute rooms and the first floor areas of the hospital, loading linen carts on the truck and delivering soiled linen to laundry using proper precautions and procedure.
Stocks clean linen carts with linens for designated areas and delivers stocked linen carts by truck.
Follows established routines or tasks that are assigned without constant reminder.
Sanitizes the work area everyday before the end of shift.
Irons or folds clean linen using equipment or by hand folding.
Fills and delivers orders that have been called in or faxed to the department in a timely manner. Enters ordered amounts into the hand held data collector correctly.
When the day's job assignment is completed or there is a lull in assigned work, consults with Manager for additional duties.
Stocks linen areas as instructed.
Follows infection control standards.
Operates linen truck and all hospital vehicles safely on or off campus.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
LICENSURE: If operating a motor vehicle for business purposes must have chauffeurs license within 90 days of hire and renew prior to expiration.
EXPERIENCE: None
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Ability to pick up single pieces of linen in order to place in ironers and folders.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Ability to take orders, answer telephone and communicate with staff and co-workers mirroring our RESPECT document. Ability to be flexible within the duties assigned.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to walk from area to area, lift bags up to 40 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to frequently push or pull large carts requiring 50 pounds of effort. Ability to reach, pull, lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach items in washers, dryers, carts and other equipment.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Ability to follow standard operating procedures in the washing, drying, ironing, folding, delivery and stocking processes.
ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Ability to see if linen is clean and in good condition; distinguish colors; feel whether linen is dry and detect odors.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Bio hazardous waste, chemicals (soaps, bleaches), heat from dryers and irons; hidden contaminated needles; moving conveyor belts; heavy, moving linen carts.
