Job Description:
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) works under the supervision of Clinical and Operations Supervisors. Provides care and transportation of ill and injured patients as described and regulated by the Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services via the authority of the Missouri Comprehensive Emergency Medical Services System Act (Chapter 190, Missouri Revised Statutes 190.010-190.245).
Performs other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Employees in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Performs all patient care skills at the level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Missouri Licensure.
Gains physical access to patients in all environments.
Lifts, moves and carries an adult patient with or without assistance.
Plans routes to and from locations of ambulance calls.
Provides assistance to the Paramedic on the ambulance team.
When dealing with a multiple-victim emergency scene, provides all basic emergency care to patients independent of the paramedic.
Safely and effectively operates an emergency vehicle (ambulance) under all road and traffic conditions.
Assembles, applies and operates all ambulance equipment.
Communicates effectively via radio equipment.
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of vehicle, supplies and equipment.
Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Missouri EMT-B training program or equivalent
LICENSURE: Missouri licensed EMT-B. Missouri licensed Class E Chauffeur. A.H.A. BLS medical provider certification. Vehicle extrication certified
EXPERIENCE: Six months full time on paramedic ambulance service and/or 500 documented calls.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Emergency vehicle operation. Ambulance equipment assembly and operation. Clinical skills- patient assessment, airway care, assisted breathing techniques, oxygen administration, mechanical aid to breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, bleeding control, bandaging techniques, obstetrical care, spinal immobilization, vehicle extrication, infection control techniques.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Effective verbal communications, good written skills, orientation to customer satisfaction and service/quality approach to the job.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to gain access to patients in any environment - requires standing, sitting, bending, stooping, crawling, climbing. Must be able to lift, move and carry an adult patient - with or without assistance. Must be able to perform CPR in a moving ambulance for a sustained period of time.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Must be able to plan routes to and from ambulance call scenes. Must preplan and anticipate assistance needed by the paramedic. Must be able to practically apply all clinical skills listed in #4.
ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Visual, tactile, auditory skills as required for licensure as EMT-B and Chauffeur.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Emergency vehicle operation in traffic. Biohazards from infected patients, all environmental hazards - inclement weather, disasters, electricity, fire, vapors, chemicals, acts of hostility
OTHER: Must be able to function as a supportive team member during emergencies.
