JOB SUMMARY & PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITY
The Vice President reports to the Administrator of the Medical Center and will be responsible for the Hospital's standards of care, leading professional standards activity to potentially achieve Magnet status and nursing excellence. He or she will be accountable for the inpatient and outpatient operations of: General Medicine/Oncology; Medical Telemetry; GI Services; Wound Care and Curative Services; Cancer Center and Mental Health.
The Vice President works together with the Medical Services Physician Administrative Leader (PAL) to accomplish the satisfaction, quality, safety and financial goals. The pair will accomplish this through the Medical Director and Team Leaders within this service line. The priority is to gain commitment on the goals and activities to achieve "world class" Medical service. The service will represent an alignment of all specialties under this service line.
SCOPE OF ROLE
The Vice President reports to the Administrator of the Medical Center, who reports to the Chief Operating Officer of the organization.
The V.P. is responsible for the HRMC inpatient and outpatient operations of:
General Medicine/Oncology
Medical Telemetry/Step-Down
GI Services
Wound Care & Curative Services
Cancer Center
Mental Health
Total service line staff encompasses 225 FTE's and oversight of a $29 million operating budget. Focus will be given to insure that all negotiated levels of service are met within the service line. Further, the incumbent will insure that techniques for measurement of improvements are benchmarked in each area.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Building Partnerships - The V.P. is responsible for assuring that community and regional healthcare needs are defined according to service line parameters, partnerships are built with physicians to accomplish service line needs, critical equipment and supplies are planned and budgeted, and that support from Marketing and Communications positively promotes the services in the region.
Business Acumen- The V.P. is responsible for establishing balanced scorecard measures, projects and other activities to accomplish the goals of the assigned service area-assuring alignment with Medical Center and Enterprise goals and initiatives. The V.P. assures that progress on goals is formally monitored on a monthly basis by reviewing progress with direct reports using Results Review, Balanced Scorecard, financial reports, quality reports and other appropriate indicators. The V.P. aggregates service line indicators for presentation to the Administrator on a monthly basis.
Coaching/Teaching & Team Development- The V.P. must attract, develop and retain employees who are quality-minded, achievement-oriented, and committed to achieving the mission and values of the organization. The V.P. works with direct report leadership to devise performance management processes to assure expectations are clearly communicated and measured-assuring alignment of individual efforts with their group and broad organizational goals.
Customer Service & Facilitating Change -A critical element of the V.P.'s role is constituency relationships. The V.P. is effectively a bridge builder among constituents with potentially competing needs and priorities. The V.P. must proactively develop positive, effective, credible relationships with physicians, Team Leaders, other V.P.s, the Administrator, Process Leaders across the organization, Officers, patients and their family members/visitors, regulators, and vendors and consultants.
Functional and Industry Knowledge- The V.P. works with financial analysts and decision support personnel to create and monitor capital and operational budgets. The V.P. works with physicians and other organizational staff to define equipment, supply, labor and other resource needs, helps prioritize among competing needs, and works with Administrator to finalize annual budget. The V.P. also assures information technology meets the clinical and decision support needs of the service line.
Managing & Mobilizing Resources- The V.P. is a key advocate to assure services by clinical, ancillary and physician providers are carried out with the highest attention to quality and safety. The V.P. works to identify process improvement opportunities, evaluates organizational structure and staffing to assure quality and safety is attained, assures quality and safety measures are defined to both regulatory and organizational standards, and works with internal and external staff and regulators to assure high quality, safe patient outcomes. The V.P. is highly involved in sponsoring and participating on teams to resolve quality and safety issues, and assures that all units and multidisciplinary teams have aligned their work with the overall quality plan, and are clear on priorities and resources.
Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Undergraduate Degree in a clinical or healthcare management discipline required, Masters Degree highly desirable.
LICENSURE: Specialized skills noted by Board Certification or License in the Service area, preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of seven years of service line relevant management experience with a strong ability to gain high, credible visibility throughout the organization. Seen as a first point of contact around service line needs and goals. Other abilities and results include:
