Job Description:
The Radiology Equipment Specialist works under the supervision of the Team Leader-BioMed. Specializes in the service, evaluation, and calibration of radiological imaging, nuclear, and therapeutic treatment equipment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Performs installation, service, calibration, evaluation, safety inspection, documentation and preventive maintenance to a variety of radiological imaging, nuclear, and therapeutic treatment equipment. This is accomplished through use of manufacturer's specifications and service information, and established industry and regulatory safety standards.

Maintains current knowledge of applicable codes, policies, and regulations from governing organizations such as, JCAHO, NFPA, OSHA, etc.

Attends equipment service training classes as necessary.

Provides accurate documentation of all work performed through work orders and updating of history files.

Sets up preventive maintenance procedures as applicable.

Orders parts or coordinates service as needed to complete repairs of equipment:

Consulting with the manufacturers/vendors technical support staff as needed.

Adhering to established organizational purchasing policies..

Assists in the CER process by performing evaluation and research on proposed equipment purchases.

In-services physicians and hospital staff on equipment operation.

Assists in training and mentoring of new Radiology Equipment Specialists

Readily assists Biomedical Equipment Technicians in service, repair, and preventive maintenance of non-radiological equipment.

Actively participates in various cross-functional work teams and committees.

Prepares reports as required by TL-Biomed.

Functions as a member of the BioMedical Team, is involved in-group meetings and accepts ownership/guidance in team outcomes.

Works scheduled hours yet is flexible with schedule to meet the needs of the department and Heartland Health, including mandatory on call rotation.

Performs numerous miscellaneous duties incidental to the work described herein.

Performs other duties as assigned by the TL-Biomed.

Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Associates Degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, applicable military training or equivalent work experience. Specialized training in the service, evaluation, and calibration of radiological imaging, nuclear, and therapeutic treatment equipment preferred. Training in medical electronics, physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology preferred

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current Valid Driver's License.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician or previous experience as a Radiology Equipment Specialist Familiarity with specialized test equipment and procedures commonly used by a Radiology Equipment Specialist preferred.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Speaks clearly, precise hand eye coordination. Fine motor skills and ability to manipulate small items and equipment.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Communicates appropriately, is courteous, outgoing and expresses an attitude of pride toward Heartland Health.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Walking standing, bending, stooping, lifting and reaching, climbing steps ladder, pushing, pulling (50-250 lbs.), coordination, reaching, using hands, lifting 50 lbs., 20-20 vision correctable with ability to distinguish colors; hearing, ability to remain seated.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Manipulates numbers, interprets data, calculates, understands, explains, assesses, remembers, concentrates, follows instructions, organizes and adapts.

ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Visual (including ability to distinguish colors), auditory, and tactile.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Possible contact with high voltage, x-rays and radioactive equipment. Use of chemicals and equipment producing heat or fumes. Risk of exposure to infectious or communicable diseases.
