Job Description:
The Education Specialist (Clinical Nurse) works under the supervision of the TL-Education & Resources. Participates in the assessment, development, planning, implementation, evaluation and promotion of clinical training/educational programs in Heartland Health. Functions in the following roles related to Heartland Health:
Facilitator
Consultant
Educator
Researcher
Change Agent
Performs other duties assigned.

Technical Competencies:
Employee in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Schedules PBDS assessment for new hire RNs, LPNs and PCAs and focus assessment for existing employees.
Develops individualized orientation plan or IEP (individual education plan) based on the PBDS action plan. Reviews orientation plan or IEP with employee, preceptor and team leader.
Schedules new employee for educational classes needed for their specific unit.
Assess learning needs for assigned areas and develops annual competencies\education plans validated by Teamleaders.
Communicates regularly with new employee, preceptor and team leader regarding progress of orientation.
Develops and teaches preceptor / CTA curriculum and monitors effectiveness of program.
Develops, implements / coordinates clinical teaching based on needs assessment.
Integrates the principles of adult learning in all Education Department activities.
Researches, assess, recommends and implements changes/improvements in the development and delivery of education / training to the organization.
Identifies, tracks, analyzes and reports appropriate to areas of expertise / assignment.
Serves as clinical education consultant on committees as appropriate.
Acts as clinical education consultant to departments supported.
Identifies opportunities, participates in PI teams and implements improvements.
Maintains appropriate documentation.
Maintains clinical competency by working a minimum of one direct patient care shift per month.
Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Clinical Educators: RN, BSN required. MSN or MA in education preferred.
LICENSURE: Clinical Educators: Current RN license in the state of Missouri. BLS.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of clinical acute care nursing experience. Two years experience in development and implementation of educational plans. Maintain current competencies in at least one direct patient care area.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Ability to speak clearly, calibrate equipment, manipulation of small items and equipment, fine motor skills.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Ability to work well with others. Flexibility; expertise in nursing care with the ability to communicate that knowledge to others. Has customer orientation.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Obtain and move equipment, mannequin demonstration, push carts, demonstrates all phases of patient care (walking, standing, reaching, lifting, moving mannequins, and equipment). Requires driving to and from various locations for business purposes.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: In-depth understanding of principles of adult education, use of statistical analysis, and current knowledge related to performance improvement and competency evaluation. Ability to evaluate problems/situations, possess organizational skills and good comprehension skills including the ability to collect and interpret data. Manages multiple educational events in various stages of program design. Outcome based philosophy.
ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Visual, hearing and feeling.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Blood/body fluids when working in direct patient care.
