Job Description:
The Clinical Dietitian-ADA works under the supervision of the Team Leader-Dietary. Collaborates with members of the health care team to provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education. Assesses nutrition needs of patients screened for moderate to high-risk. Identifies nutrient requirements according to age and disease specific need of patients. Develops and implements the nutrition care plan to address patient problems. Fosters continuity of care. Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of nutrition interventions. Provides nutrition education to patient and caregivers on appropriate food selections and eating behaviors to accomplish patient goals. Participates in performance improvement. Contributes to the evaluation of the nutrition technicians. Assesses, evaluates, and maintains professional development and competency.

Performs other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Assess patient nutritional needs and document in the medical record.

Develops nutrition care plans as part of the interdisciplinary plan of care. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as scheduled.

Assess appropriateness of diet order and adjust based on clinical needs of patients.

Reassess patient nutritional status and adjust plan of care based on patient's needs.

Assesses patient's learning needs, barriers to learning, preferred learning styles, and education level. Provides appropriate education materials and methods.

Demonstrates knowledge and expertise to patients, families, and health care team members.

Utilizes system standards, documentation standards imelines, and nutrition care manual in the provision of nutrition services.

Actively strives for quality improvement to enhance patient care and nutrition processes.

Contributes to the evaluation of diet office personnel.

Demonstrates a knowledge of age specific requirements when assessing patients and implementing care plans.

Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: B.S. Dietetics or Nutrition - completion of a Coordinated undergraduate program or internship.

LICENSURE: Registration or registry eligible through Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association; maintain registration by completing 75 hours continuing education every 5 years. Dietitian licensure through State of Missouri required.

EXPERIENCE: Three to six months in hospital dietary department.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Speaks clearly to communicate with patients, physicians, staff, families and the public. Ability to input data into computer. Must write and type legibly in medial record.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Communicate with patients, families, staff, public, and physicians; exemplify excellent customer service practices.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to move, stand and walk throughout department and hospital to interview patients and interact with interdisciplinary team.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Ability to obtain and evaluate information from patient, medical history or lab data to develop or revise care plans. Ability to calculate individual nutrient needs according to standards. Uses organizational skills to plan schedules/work activities to meet time lines. Ability to speak in front of groups of employees and community members regarding different aspects of nutrition.

ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Visually assesses patient's nutritional status; read medical information, email and standards. Ability to hear patient, staff, physician and public comments/questions.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Blood/body fluids.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Slick floors, chemicals, lifting and pushing.

OTHER: Ability to perform independently with minimal supervision after appropriate training period.
