Job Title Instructor in Computer Information Systems (CIS) | Job Summary Job Objectives: To contribute to the success of Clovis Community College students through effective teaching, advising, continuous professional development, and service to the College and the community.
JOB SUMMARY: Full-Time CIS Instructor is a faculty member providing instruction leading to an Associate Degree under the supervision of the Division Chair PM16 Essential Functions Prepare and teach courses in the Computer Information Systems & Technology curriculum to include network and cyber security, server/client-side network technologies and administration, and software applications. Teach 15 semester credit hours each Fall and Spring semester. May include day, evening, hybrid, online asynchronous, online synchronous formats. Develop and update curriculum in cyber defense, networking, and systems administration. Teaching assignment may include courses provided for area high school students under provisions of the dual credit policy of the state of New Mexico. The instructor may teach additional courses, including courses for area high school students as part of the contract or on an overload basis, by agreement with the Division Chair and Executive Vice President. Consult with students during office hours and participate in orientation, registration, committees, councils, in-service, student advisement, and professional development activities. In collaboration with other members of the division, determine course content and curricula. Fulfill all functions of a faculty member, including those related to teaching, advising, faculty service, assessment of student academic achievement, and professional development. Establish and communicate clearly defined grading procedures and standards; provide timely feedback on assignments. Participate in college-wide studies, accreditation, and projects, providing information as requested. Demonstrate or actively work to attain proficiency with such technologies as may be useful in instruction, including but not limited to personal computers, presentation software, computer-generated tutorials, and learning management systems. Appropriate continuing education and acquisition of current IT certifications to stay current in this field will be required. Supervise cooperative education experiences as needed. Develop and/or lead service-learning opportunities and/or student organizations for CIS students. Use evaluations to revise and update content, objectives, and instructional strategies.
Must have the ability to teach Online, Asynchronous, and Synchronous. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications A Master's degree in CIS, IT, CS, IM, or comparable computer/information technology discipline is preferred. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in CIS, IT, CS, IM, or comparable computer/information technology discipline is required. A Bachelor's degree in other areas accompanied with appropriate industry experience or certifications may also be considered. Industry recognized networking/cybersecurity certifications (CCNA, MCSE, MCP, Network+, Security+, CEH, etc.) are preferred and at least one will be required within one year. Two to three years of related business/industry work or teaching experience that reflects recent developments in Computer/Information Systems & Technology, Network/Cyber Security, coding, or any equivalent combinations of work and teaching experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities is preferred. Community college teaching experience is preferred. Experience in network/cyber security and client/server administration is preferred. Strong background/education in computer applications is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary. Strong commitment to quality teaching, student success, and academic excellence is required. Duties are performed in the context of a comprehensive community college; understanding of the community college mission and philosophy will be critical to success. Physical Demands PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs. SCHEDULE DETAILS: Must be available to work 40 hrs. per week with normal work hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
