Qualifications:
•10 – 15 years in medical practice
•M.D. or D.O. degree
•Has active medical practice in area of specialty
•Understanding of clinical work flow in both inpatient and outpatient settings
•Ability to develop flexible, transferable models for pathways of care
•Able to design and implement systems within the framework of technical boundaries
•Participates in applicable clinical research
•Understands major trends in healthcare and managed care, and is familiar with point of care products and medical informatics trends and tools
•Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
•Politically savvy, high tolerance for ambiguity, can work successfully in a matrix management model
Preferred:
Certificate or degree in Medical Informatics preferred.
Job Description:
The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) is responsible for supporting the development of clinical information systems that assist clinicians in the delivery of patient care.
The CMIO chairs the clinical advisory groups that provide broad-based input and then engages patient care providers including physicians, nursing practitioners, nursing staff, ancillary department personnel, and medical records professionals to facilitate the development and use of the clinical information system.
CMIO provides assistance with the modification of these systems to gain maximum efficiency and support for patient care that leverages the clinicians' time and maximizes communication with affiliates and referring physicians.
The CMIO leads the development of the clinical "rules" and protocol involved in supporting patient care research as well as the design of clinical system features supporting protocol management.
The CMIO represents the medical community and serves as an advocate of management in promoting the use of information technology in the clinical setting. The CMIO works in concert with the Hoag Information Technology function to design and implement systems and builds relationships with physicians to gain their support of IT initiatives.
