JOB SUMMARY:
Established over 20 years ago, our progressive and entrepreneur-spirited client is an independently owned, not- for-profit company that specializes in acute and long-term care services in Maryland and the District of Columbia; which employs more than 600 full-time employees. Our client is currently seeking a highly experienced and energetic professional to embark on the full-time role of Director of Communications. This exciting career opportunity will be located in Oxon Hill, MD.

The Corporate Director of Communications manages the community, advocacy and public relations program for our client. The Director of Communications oversees media/public relations issue management and crisis communication coordinating for two health care entities: an acute care hospital and a long-term care facility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Corporate Director of Communications leads our community and media strategies, oversees the development and implementation of community programming based on community needs.

The position also provides oversight of public relations to ensure positive and productive media relationships; consistency in messaging for external audiences; protection and promotion of the Nexus Health brand; and directing issue management and crisis communication processes.

The position works closely with members of Senior Leadership.

This position requires expertise in strategy development, written and verbal communication, development of various forms of publications, brand promotion and protection, and crisis management. This position also requires the ability to make sound decisions, provide guidance and counsel on communication matters, analyze and solve problems, and execute planning, publicly represent Nexus Health, and facilitate communications projects.

This position serves as a one-person office, facilitating community relations goals through key leaders and staff in the organization.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:

Bachelor of Arts degree in English, journalism, communications or related field required. Masters in Marketing and Public Relations or related field required. Masters in Marketing and Public Relations or related field preferred.

Working-level knowledge of the English language, including the ability to read, writes and speaks English.

Experience:
Five (5) years experience in public relations or communications positions, with at least three years experience at a management level preferred. Strong written, verbal English language communication skills and strong presentation and facilitation skills. Experience with development of newsletters, e-communications and other media. Ability to develop communications in house using appropriate software. Must demonstrate knowledge of use of social media in communicating with business and customer audiences.

Experience in a health care setting preferred.

Effective graphic layout and design skills for use in printed materials and displays.

Photography skills preferred.

Other Work Requirements:

Periodic requirement to work overtime.
