JOB SUMMARY:
In business for well over a decade, our high- growth client is seeking an enthusiastic and hands-on candidate for the position of Accounting Manager. The incumbent will assist in managing the general accounting and financial reporting process for the company. Our client, commercial print / direct-mail/ commingling/process outsourcing company, services the Mid-Atlantic Region and is located in Arbutus, Maryland.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accounting Manager will focus on financial analysis and reporting, providing meaningful management information, and the further development of accounting procedures and controls
- Developing and building the accounting department
- Manage the day to day accounting functions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, preparation of financial statements, cash management, budgeting, and forecasting
- Prepare monthly financial reports that summarize company financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings.
- Perform monthly financial closing process, including the recording of necessary journal entries
- Perform monthly balance sheet account analysis and reconciliation.
- Train and instruct employees in job duties and company policies or arrange for training to be provided
- Ensure all company revenue and expenses are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP
- Review and approve accounts payable transactions to verify compliance with company policies.
- Implement corporate and departmental policies, procedures, and service standards in conjunction with management
- Supervise the work of department employees to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems
- Evaluate employees' job performance and conformance to regulations and recommend appropriate personnel action
- Oversees the analysis of accounts receivable and aging of accounts to determine overdue accounts and efficiency of collection procedures
- Reviews records and reports completed by employees such as account payables, payroll and reporting to verify details, monitor work activities and evaluate performance
- Analyze internal processes, making recommendations and implement procedural or policy changes to improve operations
- Complete reports and spreadsheet analysis as requested by Director of Finance.
- Develop allocations and calculations required for month-end journal entries
- Supervise a staff of two.
REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):
- BA/BS Degree in Accounting (or relevant field)
- 4-5 years experience as a Manager of Accounting or a General Ledger Accountant
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel (Advanced Level) and Power Point
- High level proficiency in QuickBooks
- Must be able to work independently
- Strong analytical, detailed and interpersonal skills
- Must be fast and accurate with 10-key adding machine
- Highest regard for confidentiality and high ethical standards required
- Willingness to jump into a variety of projects; Flexibility
- Leadership skills and ability to work as a member of a team
Other Work Requirements:
- An occasional requirement to work overtime.
- Direct reports will be mostly clerical, so the candidate must have a comfort- level with handling the accountant/bookkeeper duties.
