Job Summary:
The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for performing and recording laboratory tests that encompass a broad range of sophistication and also assists in quality control studies, teaching of students and orientation of new personnel.
Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
1. Performs complex as well as routine laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
2. Interprets and correlates test results with the patient’s diagnosis.
3. Documents all quality control procedures performed and documents corrective action when QC is out of range.
4. Performs routine maintenance on sophisticated instrumentation.
5. Maintains complete and accurate records, i.e., instrument worksheets and maintenance sheets.
6. Calibrates and standardizes sophisticated instrumentation according to section guidelines.
7. Checks and standardizes reagents.
8. Maintains an adequate level of supplies.
9. Performs all computer system functions necessary to achieve the timely reporting of results.
10. Assists with clinical orientation of new employees and assists with the instruction of MLT students.
11. Performs the duties of Senior Tech and/or is responsible for running the section when required to do so on weekends and holidays, and during weekdays when both the section head and assistant section head are absent.
