- Associate Degree or higher
- Excellent computer skills
- Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Detail oriented and organized
- Ability to interact well with physicians and other members of allied health care team, including HIM coders
- 3 - 5 yeas Op coding experience
The Health Information Coordinators are responsible for assisting their respective supervisors with the coordinating of work activities within their assigned area. The Outpatient Data Coordinator ensure that all outpatient accounts within their section are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
1. Performs the daily monitoring of the Alpha Di report and collects data from operations departments as well as justifications for aged accounts on the DNFB.
2. Monitors all OP coding areas hospital wide for timely completion and ensures that all records that HI staff codes are received within the established time frames to meet month end goals.
3. Monitors daily work flow and prioritizes work distribution based on departmental needs.
4. Assigns ICD-9-CM or HCPCS codes creating APC group assignments. Abstracts pertinent information from patient records for facility billing for the ETD, Pediatric ER, and outpatient admitted cases, for emergency department physician billing.
