Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
• Graduate of a 4 year college program.
• At least 1 unit of clinical pastoral education or comparable pastoral studies.
• Continuing education in the field of spirituality, health care, bereavement and grief counseling through recognized institutions
Job Summary:
The chaplain provides spiritual leadership to the Medical Center staff and patients. This position ministers through spiritual expertise quality, sensitive and compassionate care to patients for superior pastoral ministry.
Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
1. Provides intensive and extensive pastoral care and counseling to patients, families and staff in their crisis situations.
2. Collaborates on a multi-disciplinary level to work effectively as a pastoral member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
3. Visits those patients and families who have no clergy contacts, but who wish spiritual counseling.
4. Assists the family in connect with a local clergy, or provides direct spiritual counsel, prayer counseling.
5. Assumes the optimum use of one’s religion heritage, theological understanding, and knowledge of the behavioral sciences in pastoral ministry to persons and groups.
6. Follows the highest standards of ethical conduct as outlined by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Educators.
7. Assists with liturgies and conducts prayer services as needed.
